Paul Seawright - Field Notes
This Irish photographer (1965) made a name for himself in the early 1990s with series such as 'Orange Order', 'Police Force', and 'Secterian Murder'. Documentary work in which the conflicts of Northern Ireland take center stage. Yet here we do not see brutal crime, but rather the indirect, suggestive traces of violence. An approach that Seawright also employs in his later work on Afghanistan and Africa, making him one of the most relevant photographers of his generation, not least because of his nuanced stance on the contemporary significance of documentary photography.
